What is a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO thread lift is a non-surgical facelift where facial skin is lifted and tightened using polydioxanone (PDO) threads. These threads are inserted and anchored into layers of the skin, instantly lifting and tightening lax skin while also stimulating collagen production. A thread lift can treat most parts of the face, including cheeks, jaw, neck, and around the eyes. Anywhere from 1 to 15 threads may be used per treatment section.

There is an array of different types of PDO threads, including:

  • PDO mono threads: These smooth sutures help to stimulate collagen production to rejuvenate skin.
  • PDO screw threads: These are made up of one or two intertwines threads and are used to help restore volume in the skin.
  • PDO cog threads: These threads contain barbs that latch into the skin, providing support and lift to different areas of the face.

Who is a Candidate?

Healthy adults who are looking to lift and tighten their facial skin without surgery can often benefit from a PDO thread lift. However, you should not receive this treatment if you have active acne or broken skin in the treatment area, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact our office today to schedule a consultation appointment to learn if thread lifts are right for you.

Treatment

To begin treatment, your skin will first be disinfected, and a topical anesthetic applied to ensure you are comfortable. Next, a small incision will be created in the treatment area and the PDO thread will be placed using a cannula. The thread is then cut and secured into place. This process will be repeated until all PDO threads are placed.

Results

Following a PDO thread lift, you may experience mild swelling and bruising for the first 24 to 48 hours, though there is no downtime required. Be sure to avoid rubbing your face the week after your procedure, and also avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, sleeping on your side, intense exercise, and using saunas for the best results. Thread lift results typically last between 12 and 24 months for most patients.
