Xeomin®

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin® is a neuromodulator injectable treatment, similar to Botox®. Made with a slightly different formulation of botulinum toxin type A, it works by blocking the release of chemicals that cause muscles to contract, leading to facial wrinkles. This results in smoother skin and a more youthful look. During the Xeomin manufacturing process, the therapeutic component of the active ingredient is isolated and unnecessary proteins are removed. This means Xeomin is a more purified form of Botox without the unnecessary ingredients, which some patients prefer. Overall, Xeomin is FDA-approved to treat frown lines between the eyebrows, also called the “11s”, though Xeomin and other botulinum toxin products can also be used off-label to treat other areas such as forehead lines, chin wrinkles, crow’s feet, and neck bands.

Who is a Candidate?

Adults 18 years of age and older who are looking to improve moderate to severe frown lines between their eyebrows can often benefit from Xeomin. However, you should not receive Xeomin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a skin infection at the injection site, or have bleeding problems. Any history of muscle weakness, visual impairment, eyelid ptosis, allergic reactions, or breathing problems should be discussed during your consultation. Xeomin Treatment

Prior to treatment, a consultation appointment is required to determine which areas of the face can be treated and/or if you are a good candidate. Dr. Bilibruck will assess your skin and facial structure to create a personalized treatment plan to meet your expectations and goals.

During treatment, Xeomin will be injected into the muscles that cause frown lines between your brows. No anesthesia is needed, though you may request a topical numbing cream to reduce any discomfort. Treatments are quick, taking 10-20 minutes to complete.

Xeomin Results

There is no downtime required following Xeomin injection, so you can feel free to return to your regular activities as soon as you wish. Mild redness and swelling are to be expected, which will resolve with time. You may have very mild injection site pain for the first few hours, and a topical anesthetic can be used if needed. Most patients begin to see results typically within 3-4 days after injection and last three to four months before additional treatment is needed.
